In Her Own Words is a series of conversations with petite women from our inspiring community. This month, we sat down with Melbourne-based content creator Vinny Chen. Better known as Simple Blanc on Instagram, Vinny has a bold and refined taste in all things fashion, interiors and beauty. We chatted to her about her wardrobe essentials, earliest fashion memories and the woman who inspires her the most.
Your signature style:
I would say my personal style is elegant, chic and classy.
Your wardrobe essentials:
An oversized blazer, a white shirt, a pair of trousers, a timeless black or neutral coat and a pair of jeans.
Your earliest fashion memory:
My mum’s wardrobe. I loved watching her choose clothes from her wardrobe and get ready when I was small. Her elegant and classy style really influenced my sense of style.
The last book you read:
Declutter Your Mind.
A time you felt bold:
Quitting my full-time job and starting my career as a freelance content creator and an influencer was definitely the time I felt bold in my life.
A moment you felt vulnerable:
It was a challenging time for many people during COVID and I felt very vulnerable when my dad was sick and was sent to hospital during lockdown. I had no help or any of the social networks I usually relied on.
A woman who inspires you:
I would say my mum. She is the most patient woman in the world and is always there if I need her. She is also my best friend who I can talk to about anything. She taught me all I needed to know about being a good human being. Without my mum, I wouldn’t be what I am today.
A place you’d like to visit this year:
I really want to revisit Japan and Paris.
What being a modern woman means to you:
It means being confident, living in the now, standing up for my own rights and for others, and feeling able to live the life I choose and do whatever I want to do.
Vinny is 5’5” (165cm) and wears our Heidi Linen Blazer and Kim Linen Trouser in Almond, both in Size 12.
